Gift Guide for the Petite Hiker
Here are a few of my favorites for petite hikers. There are lots of sales already starting for Black Friday. Backcountry is offering 20% off with Take20November. Icebreaker is 25% on select styles, no code needed and Prana has 30% off select styles, also no code needed! Based on sales last year, they get higher on Black Friday, but keep an eye out before these items sell out!
Lululemon Swiftly Tech Long Sleeve Crew (size 4)
I own three of these shirts in a white, grey, and lavender. When we go hiking, I always layer this on. Because it’s skin tight and airy, it’s also great for a multi-day backpacking trip when you can’t shower. I love this top in the misty/merlot color shown here.
Icebreaker Women’s 260 Tech Leggings (XS)
This is my go-to base layer leggings that fit comfortably snug without being too long.
Prana Meme Pant (XS Short)
These are my favorite hiking pants. Quick dry, stretchy, lots of pockets, and they come in short, regular and long lengths! I have two in the short size.
Gregory Maven 55L Backpack - Women’s (XS)
I love the color combinations, features, and comfort of this backpacking bag. I’ve been a fan ever since a lady at REI recommended Gregory when I couldn’t find any bags that really fit my frame comfortably. I’ve had the Gregory Jade 50L for over six years now and still love it. It’s no longer in stock, but the Maven is an equally good option.
Merrell Moab 2 Mid Waterproof Hiking Boot
I’ve owned a pair of these for several years through mud, snow, rivers, marshes, and more. They’re extremely comfortable with lots of cushion and not overly heavy.
Icebreaker Women’s 200 Oasis Long Sleeve Crewe (XS)
Icebreaker is our go-to for those warm base layers. Everything is 100% merino wool, which is super soft and great for hiking. A bonus is that it doesn’t get smelly after several days of hiking in it!
Prana Briann Pant (XS Short)
The Meme pant is running low until they restock again, but the Briann pant comes in the same material and similar colors. Also comes in short, regular, and long lengths.
Marmot Variant Women’s Fleece (XS)
I have this fleece in the black color and often bring this to layer on during hiking. With the core area covered in insulation, stretchy Polartec fleece sides, thumbholes, and zippered handwarmer pockets, it’s also great for running.
Lululemon Free to Be Bra (Size 4)
With a petite frame, comes petite sizing everywhere. Lululemon somehow manages to make a supportive bra that’s stylish and perfect for petites.
Patagonia Organic Cotton Quilt Snap-T Pullover Sweatshirt (XS)
I just purchased this from REI and Backcountry’s 20% off sale as a comfy alternative to my Marmot fleece (out of stock). The fabric is super soft and seems perfect for layering.
Icebreaker Women’s 200 Oasis Long Sleeve V
This is another slim fit base layer from Icebreaker. Love the color in velvet
Camelbak Antidote Reservoir 100 oz
Whenever I’m backpacking, I tend to bring my camelbak as it’s easier than reaching for my water bottle every time. It’s also convenient for scooping water to filter when out in the backcountry.
L.L.Bean Women’s Ultralight 850 Down
Sleeping Bag, 15 Degrees
For a splurge, this women’s sleeping bag is ultralight with water resistant goose down. As someone who gets cold easily, this bag changed my camping experience. It’s also the perfect length for my 5’ 2” frame whereas several other bags have been too long for me.
Nema Tensor Insulated Pad
For those campers who get cold easily, I absolutely love this sleeping pad. It has an inner layer that helps reflect body heat. It’s also ultralight.
The North Face Venture 2 Jacket (XS)
This is a nice waterproof and windproof shell to layer on during a rainy day. It’s easily packable, just in case you need it. Liking this in fig heather.
REI Merino Wool Heavyweight Crew Socks
Never underestimate how luxuriously cushy these sock will make your feet feel during a long hike! I have two pairs from REI.
Black Diamond Trail Pro Shock
Trekking Poles
This women’s hiking poles comes with a rubber suspension, making it a little easier on your knees. It’s also compact enough to fit into a carry-on for travel.
