A Warm Autumn Evening on Mt. Tam

We decided to try chasing the fog again this weekend, hoping for the cascading billows of white descending down the rolling hills towards San Francisco. After waiting a few hours around Mt. Tam, the fog receded, but we ended up with a rather romantic, warm evening watching sunset together atop the grassy hills.

When we first started up the hill, it was still bright outside. After hiking around the area, we settled on a spot to wait for golden hour.

And slowly watched the world around us alight in gold:

To track the best time for photos, I use an app called Golden Hour. There are many other options out there, but simple details of this app meet my needs wherever we are.

The tall grass around us softly danced with the welcome breeze. There was something about the atmosphere that made it really feel like the first day of autumn.

We stayed until the sun finally set, painting the sky in pastels. A sea of clouds hovered below us, seemingly endless as they stretched towards the horizon.

The moon eventually came out behind us. When we left, the weather was still in the 70s (F) until we reached the base of the mountain. We’ll definitely be back again someday to chase the fog again, but it’s also hard to beat a warm evening on the mountain.
