Finishing My Embroidered Chicken Pillow

My husband has been wondering how long it’d take me to finish this pillow. Since we have so many (definitely not enough) pillows, I can’t get anymore, but I can make new pillow covers! Hahaha!

When I started though, I didn’t quite appreciate how detailed each chicken was. I ended up working on this while watching TV with my husband after work and sometimes taking this on our weekend getaway trips. I’ve never made a pillow before this and don’t realize how easy it was to make (minus the embroidery).

While I used three pieces of fabric here, you can also sew a pillow cover with a single piece of fabric if it's large enough. Here are ways to do both:

single sheet pillow cover

With a single sheet, you only need to sew two sides. I found ironing the folds down helped keep their shape during sewing. Some people like to sew along the folds too, but so far, I haven't found a need to.

multiple sheet pillow cover

I ended up using multiple sheets since I had previously embroidered onto a smaller sheet of linen. This however, requires you to sew along four sides.

For the chicken pattern, see Yumiko Higuchi’s Simply Stitched. Going back to enjoying my new pillow!

Happy pillow cover making!
