Hiking the First & Second Flatirons

I was really happy we had a chance to hike the first and second flatirons. While we alternated between dry, hot spots to icy, snowy sections - we definitely lucked out on weather. The day after, the entire area was completely covered in snow with complete whiteout conditions.

It was a gradual incline up to the top. There were a few sections where we slipped on our Yaktrax to get over the slippery ice, which I'd highly recommend having on hand whenever you're walking on ice. They're compact and easy to slip onto your hiking boots.

About halfway to the top, we found this spot along the flatiron face. It had an expansive view of Boulder below and a little surreal sitting on such an angled slope.

This was a beautiful view at the top. We found this nook where the three of us were able to fit, overlooking the valley between the flatirons below.

Despite being windy, it was warm in the sun. We found several people taking naps and sunbathing on the rocks. We snacked up here for a bit. I think our friend Kader ate an entire bag of chips!

Here we are, on the way down the day we hiked:

Here is that same region the day after:

We couldn't believe we were just there the previous day! We met a photographer near the entrance who was getting ready to hike in. Someday, when I'm brave enough to embrace the cold, I'd like to try hiking in the snow to take some photos. It's on my bucket list to try snowshoeing too, but that'll have to wait for next time!
