Exploring Pearl Street in the Snow & Our Cozy Stay

Pearl Street, located in downtown Boulder has much to offer including boutique stores, outdoor equipment, bookstores, and an assortment of cafes & restaurants. See my post on our foodie adventures, which includes several places along this street!

boulder bookstore

I loved the bookstore in downtown Boulder. Between eating, we sought out some food for thought. They have several floors and a unique selection of curated books. Immediately when you walk in, the entire left side is lined with book recommendations. For an avid reader, there's nothing better than recommendations from other people. One of the books that caught my eye (and also a book my husband pulled out, chuckling "this is just like you") was called The Little Book of Hygge: Danish Secrets to Happy Living.  I think I've always been at little loss for how to describe the combination of things I love and the aesthetic I gravitate towards.

Hygge is the sensation you get when you’re cuddled up on a sofa, in cozy socks under a soft throw, during a storm. It’s that feeling when you’re sharing comfort food and easy conversation with loved ones at a candlelit table. It is the warmth of morning light shining just right on a crisp blue-sky day.

My husband also knows I love greeting cards. So much, that I have a collection. When I saw this one, I couldn't help laughing because I love Pinterest. And my husband knows that very well too.

The first horror story about a vegetarian we've ever seen. I think my husband's in shock here.

A snowy view of the bookstore the day after a clear, sunny day.

Walking Down Pearl Street in the Snow

We walked around Pearl St. in the snow, trying to stay warm while admiring the snowflakes. On our first day, it was sunny and warm. The snow came in rather quickly overnight, but I think Pearl St. is even more beautiful capped with snow.

ku cha house of tea

This store had a large selection of authentic Chinese teas, including one of my new favorites: Tie Guan Yin Oolong. They also have a tea station where you can create and blend your own teas:

At the back of the store is an atrium with skylights where you can purchase and sip tea. They have an extensive menu of teas in the store that you can try. They can also make any tea a boba tea if you prefer. Our group tried a combination of drinks including earl grey and a roasted yerba matte latte. My husband though - I couldn't let him live it down! He ordered an "Oriental Beauty" oolong tea!

They also had these clay miniatures. When we were first dating, my husband had one of these. He showed me how if you immerse the sculpture in hot water, it starts peeing...yes peeing. Unfortunately, we cracked it on accident while cleaning one day. It's a fun piece to have in the kitchen though.

peppercorn

I found this store by chance along Pearl Street. They had every cooking gadget and cookbook imaginable, including some interesting selections of Harney & Sons Tea.

Here are a few photos of the inside, just to get a sense of the magnitude of cookbooks inside. It's the largest, centralized selection I've ever seen. If you're feeling inspired to try something new and find new recipes, this is a great store for you!

where we stayed

We found this cute Airbnb after an extended search. It was perfect for the five us and centrally located near Pearl Street. I loved the combination of wood, patterned tiles, large windows, bright white, bold black, navy, and touches of gold.

Here we are on our way out, the one snowy day we had in Boulder. The living room room was equipped with a gas fireplace that provided a warm, cozy source of heat (in addition to the central heating). A few of us sat on this stool in front the fire several nights during our stay.

Everything was clean and every room was bright. Someday, I hope we'll have a place with this many large windows!

There was a full kitchen with skylight and separate family room attached. We put the kettle on the stove and made tea every night. When it's cold outside, ginger lemon tea is a good non-caffeinated choice that also helps warm you up from the inside out.

Boulder was a great place to visit and leisurely explore over a few days. If we come back again someday, I hope we have a chance to visit the hot springs in the snow! I would also highly recommend the Boulder Bookstore. I could probably spend an entire day there and more.
