Spending the Day on Mount Tam

We decided to get some fresh air and hike Mount Tam on Saturday. It's been a while since we went on a longer hike and I've been itching to immerse myself in nature again.

Since the rains finally cleared, we drove out early in the morning to see these views. It was like a watercolor out there with fog layered in between the hills. Far out in the distance, we could see the silhouette of San Francisco and Sutro Tower.  There was something calming and very peaceful about the scene.

The air was a bit brisk, but we layered up in wool, fleece, and windbreakers. We brought our cameras and tried out the Peak Camera Clips our friend Alex bought for us as a wedding gift. For anyone who loves taking photos, I'd highly recommend them. They mounted easily to my backpack strap and made it easy to remove/remount my camera throughout the day. While you're hiking, it's rigidly mounted and out of the way.

We alternated between covered trails in the woods to rolling hills of open fields. The trails on Mount Tam were very well maintained. This is easily one of my favorite new areas to hike. We dropped pins on Google Maps along the way to mark favorite locations (and potential spots for a future picnic!).

We arrived in this open field where we could see the ocean out in the distance. I was originally worried January wouldn't be a good time to go hiking here, but it was perfect. We pretty much had the trails to ourselves and the breathtaking views, encountering only the occasional hiker along the way.

Even though the total hike was only a little over 4 miles, we lingered until sundown, taking several photos along the way. It was so beautiful out here, we'd do it again.
