NYE Holiday Cookie Party
We spent a quiet night in for NYE and had some friends come by. We played Jackbox games and made several dozen cookies to decorate.
Even though Christmas is over, it’s been on my bucket list to make cookies with icing for a very long time. I’ve tried to make time for it the last three weeks, but something always came up.
I caved in and bought this cookie making set from Williams Sonoma.
It comes with all the cookie cutters, icing bags, tips, and even all the little tags and togo boxes. I’d highly recommend! It looks sold out right now, but the Valentine’s Day kit is available already!
I used the royal icing recipe here and sugar cookie recipe here. The cookie recipe makes pretty dry batter, but it helps keep the cookies sharp and prevents them from expanding too much in the oven.
I’ve never made icing before so it definitely took a few tries to get the consistency right. Lesson learned is to always keep some extra stiff icing on reserve so that you can thicken it back up if needed. I also found cutting the tip of the icing bag to apply icing was sometimes easier than using the frosting tips.
Enjoy and Happy New Year!
